That's got to be the sickest movie of this decade. For the fifty plus still waiting. My advice is to give it a miss. But I'll return it quickly for those that do not take a friendly warning.

Lots of nudity. Sex stuff. Not much talking. Fairly mute movie.

Simple and well executed. It has the feeling of a stage play. Much nudity but when it shows a penis I just hold a hand up in front of the screen to block it out. Mia Goth is badass in this and also A Cure For Wellness. Are these people Irish? I detect a slight accent. Recommended.

The lack of dialog makes this movie unwatchable! Watching people farm is not interesting.

Original. Watchable. Plot leaves many major questions unanswered, and a few minor ones, such as: why does the main character take the time to intricately arrange his hair while the women wear theirs long, loose, and ratty?

This is definitely a slow burn. If you are looking for something that has a lot of flashy lights, explosions and hot people in spandex, don't watch this film. This is a film, not a Hollywood blockbuster. It is slow, sometimes uncomfortable, but compelling and interesting throughout. If you like that sort of thing you might like this. I get bored with high budget action that has me leaving the theater feeling nothing. At least I felt something watching this, a bit of horror mixed with suspense.

Clever film of a dystopian future where the survivalist protagonist has planned for what may well happen when we run out of fossil fools sometime ahead. His world is interrupted by a mother and daughter who seek his help, and forward goes the story. Don't look for special effects or a happy ending in this grim and gritty portrayal, which grabs you and doesn't easily let go.

at least 25% of this movie is no dialogue, including the first 10-15 minutes. slow. boring. i wanted to turn it off several times throughout, but it was on a list of "movies you must see before you die" so i stuck it out.

i wouldn't categorize it as unwatchable, but it's definitely a NO-GO

I lean toward films that present clever and strong character development. I had absolutely no expectation of this in The Survivalist but I was pleasantly surprised. The director and actors carried out the difficult task of presenting moviegoers with nonverbal character development. The changes of intensity in their eyes, the slight nuances in the movement of their bodies, and just the energy that each of them exulted as they interacted with one another was impressive. For example (spoiler): When Milja and Kathryn plotted the murder of the survivalist by feeding him poisoned mushrooms, the subtle hint that Milja was bonding with the survivalist coupled with the nonchalant, yet empowering way she prepared the dish lead me to suspect that Milja was going to protect her man while rebelling against her mom in one swoop. Mia Goth's unpretentious and youthful personality that she displays in her interview (in the Extras of the DVD) affirms her stellar skills as an actor.

A bleak look at basic survival and the price of coexistence in a post-apocalyptic future, with as much detail given to showing self-sustaining agriculture as to the violent defense of a remote hermitage.
