What a sad and beautiful film. If you like jazz, this documentary contains clips from some of the most well regarded concerts of the 1950s and 1960s. Who knew that from the time he was 16, Lee Morgan played on some of the most well known jazz tunes that came out of that era. This films has vintage photos of him clowning around and playing with the masters.

We also get to see an intimate portrait of both Lee Morgan and Helen Morgan. There can be no doubt that she was a strong independent woman who made a way for herself in a time when such a task was quite difficult for a Black woman. We learn of a woman who was nurturing by nature. She helped to rebuild Morgan's career when heroin had left it and him in shambles. Through their friends -- fellow musicians -- we get to hear about their mutual devotion. And through Helen Morgan's own words, we learn about the events that lead to that tragic night.

This is a film that every jazz fan, music fan, or documentary fan should see!

Great telling of a tragic story.
A jazz great gone too soon. Plenty of good music in the film. Not much sympathy for the killer, no matter how tragic of a character she is portrayed as.
