When Flora MacKenzie traded her glum career in London for the remote Scottish island of Mure, she never dreamed that Joel--her difficult, adorable boss--would follow. Yet now, not only has Flora been reunited with her family and opened a charming café by the sea, but she and Joel are taking their first faltering steps into romance. With Joel away on business in New York, Flora is preparing for the next stage in her life. And that would be? Love? She's feeling it. Security? In Joel's arms, sure. Marriage? Not open to discussion. In the meanwhile, Flora is finding pleasure in a magnificent sight: whales breaking waves off the beaches of Mure. But it also signals something less joyful. According to local superstition, it's an omen--and a warning that Flora's future could be as fleeting as the sea-spray.

Jenny Colgan's heartwarming stories feature heroines in small towns with loads of drama, happiness and yes, desperate sometimes hopeless sadness.

'The Endless Beach' is all those things, yet done so beautifully, capturing the real emotions that you and I would feel, along with touching on two particularly ignored social issues: that of foster care children and that of the challenge of a child of a war torn country assimilating to a peaceful new culture.

Jenny's depth of writing just grows with each subsequent book. I would advise you to read them, enjoy them, appreciate them.

This is the follow up to The Beach Cafe and continues the story of Flora on the Island of Mure in Scotland. A very good read - recommended :-)

Just as good as The Cafe by the Sea, which I loved.

I love Jenny Colgan stories (almost always), but it is just unbelievable to me that there are men who agonize over their relationships. Apart from finding Joel's inner angst hilarious, I enjoyed this book tremendously. About a 6 hour read, and worth every second for its light-hearted take on the environment of an island upon which very few of us would ever enjoy for a vacation much less give up wonderful careers to scrape by while our neighbors knew our every secret.

In the second book of Colgan's Summer Seaside Kitchen series, Flora and Joel are tiptoeing their way through romance. While Joel's demanding boss keeps always working in faraway places, Flora is struggling to keep her cafe afloat. Only when a crisis occurs, do the two find their way back together. Colgan's strength is depicting life on a remote, Scottish island with interesting subplots and memorable characters. I'm hoping Book 3 wraps up several threads for me.
