Ellingham Academy is a famous private school in Vermont for the brightest thinkers, inventors, and artists. It was founded by Albert Ellingham, an early twentieth century tycoon, who wanted to make a wonderful place full of riddles, twisting pathways, and gardens. Shortly after the school opened, his wife and daughter were kidnapped. The only real clue was a mocking riddle listing methods of murder, signed with the frightening pseudonym 'Truly, Devious.'.

Great teen mystery that ends on a cliff hanger. While I wish the story stood on it's own better, this one has lots of great layers of representation and a great boarding school setting that will appeal to teen readers!

Calling all true crime lovers! Were you on the edge of your seat for Serial? Have you devoured every adaptation of Sherlock? Then Truly Devious should be your next read. Folks, I couldn't put this one down!

Aspiring teen detective & true crime nerd Stevie Bell finds herself attending Ellingham Academy, a school known its academic rigor and for the mysterious murders that occurred in the 1930s. Told in alternating perspectives between Stevie’s own investigation and witness testimony from the 30s, this story will keep you hooked. Stevie is an intensely likable character--I fell in love with Stevie’s drive to solve the mystery and her practical-yet-awkward personality. This book has a little bit of everything, and I highly recommend it to anyone who loves mysteries, puzzles, and intrepid heroines!

A solid 4.5 stars for this first installment in the Truly Devious trilogy. I don't know if I can stand it -- two more whole books to get to the bottom of the mystery of the disappearance of Iris and Alice Ellingham.

A big thank you to Harper Collins and Edelweiss for an ARC of this new YA whodunit. I found Stevie to be very likable. Her relentless "snooping" into other people's business is much like Nancy Drew although not quite as well-heeled. The other residents of House Minerva all seem to have their own baggage and when one of them is also murdered, the plot thickens. I almost wish I had discovered this series once all three parts were published so I could binge read them one after the other.
