House of Trump, House of Putin
The Untold Story of Donald Trump and the Russian Mafia
Book - 2018
THE NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER
"The story Unger weaves with those earlier accounts and his original reporting is fresh, illuminating and more alarming than the intelligence channel described in the Steele dossier." --The Washington Post
House of Trump, House of Putin offers the first comprehensive investigation into the decades-long relationship among Donald Trump, Vladimir Putin, and the Russian Mafia that ultimately helped win Trump the White House.
It is a chilling story that begins in the 1970s, when Trump made his first splash in the booming, money-drenched world of New York real estate, and ends with Trump's inauguration as president of the United States. That moment was the culmination of Vladimir Putin's long mission to undermine Western democracy, a mission that he and his hand-selected group of oligarchs and Mafia kingpins had ensnared Trump in, starting more than twenty years ago with the massive bailout of a string of sensational Trump hotel and casino failures in Atlantic City. This book confirms the most incredible American paranoias about Russian malevolence.
To most, it will be a hair-raising revelation that the Cold War did not end in 1991--that it merely evolved, with Trump's apartments offering the perfect vehicle for billions of dollars to leave the collapsing Soviet Union. In House of Trump, House of Putin , Craig Unger methodically traces the deep-rooted alliance between the highest echelons of American political operatives and the biggest players in the frightening underworld of the Russian Mafia. He traces Donald Trump's sordid ascent from foundering real estate tycoon to leader of the free world. He traces Russia's phoenixlike rise from the ashes of the post-Cold War Soviet Union as well as its ceaseless covert efforts to retaliate against the West and reclaim its status as a global superpower.
Without Trump, Russia would have lacked a key component in its attempts to return to imperial greatness. Without Russia, Trump would not be president. This essential book is crucial to understanding the real powers at play in the shadows of today's world.

Corruption is said to go all the way to the top, but it does indeed get accepted and nurtured there as well. Many of the back door, seemingly anonymous "deals/alignments" are quite reminiscent of those in pre WW1 Europe.
Really enjoyed this book. It argues that much of Trump's success in real-estate comes from the Russian mafia laundering money through Trump property investment. This in itself sounds terrible but the worst of it is that investment came from a criminal enterprise acting on behalf of the Putin regime and the FSB in an effort to develop Trump as a political ally (useful idiot). The idea that the modern Russian state is built on organized crime would be fascinating if it weren't so terrifying. The chapter about the tactics the FSB employ to influence politics abroad was particularly interesting.

Very involved. Finish at another time.... perhaps.
We know for a fact now that Deutsche Bank laundered Russian money for Fat Donnie. Hope he rots in prison for undermining the United States and that his "uneducated" base wakes up to reality sooner rather than later to the fact that they believed anti-Hillary Russian propaganda.
Check out how Russia supported Dumpy and helped spread propaganda to Dumpy's supporters.

Please congress; hurry up with the impeachment so we can put this guy in prison where he belongs.
There isn't much I can add to what other reviewers have posted other than to say the world's largest, and possibly all, governments are full of corrupt individuals and no one is to be trusted. Why do we put up with. it election after election? If only Trump's supporters would wake up to that fact. The phrase "A den of thieves" comes to mind.
This is one scary book that must be read and must be believed. With the demise of the Soviet union, the oligarchs, Russian criminal elements who have enriched themselves by furtively buying up the assets of the defunct republic are you looking for a place to launder and park their money. In the US meanwhile, Donald Trump, self styled developer, four times declared bankrupt, his hotels failing and beyond his grasp looks like the ideal undertaking for the Russian Mafia. Will he go the step further and become Putin’s candidate for the presidency? Take a guess. As for Trump: how can a “smart man” be so stupid or so ignorant or so naive or so complicitous? The second part of the book is about a man so arrogant he would sell his own country to the devil.
Like I said, this is one scary book.
Beware of 'slowsecuritywhimps.' A lot of people are not smart enough to discern fake news from what is really going on.
