A man, a preacher in fact, struggling to understand his life, his marriage, his small children and at the same time be a source of strength to his parishioners. He's complex in many ways, but very innocent and naive in other ways, and that adds to his struggle. A good book, well-written and thoughtful.
Another wonderful story by an author who can really see and depict the majesty, joy and sorrow in everyday life. Excellent.
This book was well written, enjoyed it very much.
I would love to hear from others who have read this book. I have so many questions about the story which I feel the author left unresolved. I can't get into them as it would be a spoiler but did anyone else feel this way?
I like this author and enjoyed this book very much.
I am surprised by the negative reviews. This is a subtle, poignant book; heart-wrenching a times to be sure, but never depressing. Strout writes so beautifully, yet so subtly, that it is easy to underestimate the power of her style. I highly recommend this, and everything she has written.
This book was horrible! I wish I could have stopped reading it a page in. Kept thinking it would get better but it didn't. So boring and depressing!!!
