The Okavango is one of the most diverse habitats on earth - a kingdom like no other. Here, the arrival and disappearance of sweet fresh water alters the balance of life for so many. The flood is a sanctuary and a trap, giving and taking life in equal measure. Above and below the water, never ending battles of wits and survival play out. This is a place of spectacular natural dramas where the fortunes of tens of thousands of animals each year are controlled by one ruler - The Great Flood.

We enjoy "traveling" via the nature DVDs, and this one from National Geographic was certainly a delight. My most favorite segments were of the varieties of birds and especially two particular species in the care of their young. Lots of other animals were featured, but I really liked the bird segments.

In the heart of southern Africa's largest desert lies a miracle -- the Okavango Delta. One of the most diverse habitats on Earth, each year it undergoes an epic transformation as desert becomes water wonderland. For many, the floodwaters are a lifeline. For others, they bring harsh challenges. But for all, life is ruled by the pulsing of Africa's great flood. NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC
