This book is passionately eloquent. Carol's writing shimmers with the warmth and heart it takes to blaze a trail and to find and heal oneself.

Davis flying his floatplane into the Stein:

"When Nathan returned with the shovels and other supplies it was if he was returning home. He circled the lake twice, his heart full and warm, his breath soft lest it shake this sensation away. He contemplated the overpowering sense of beauty, the way the hairs on his arms raised in an almost sexual way. The descending of his “bird” was an intimate act. He lowered himself into the arms of the Stein Valley. Davis was a small figure standing with outstretched arms and he knew him as his brother, knew he could entrust his life to him."
