A twisty and thrilling international search for a man's true identity, amongst fragments of memory that don't seem to fit together but are steeped in violence and tragedy. I have seen the movie based on this book half a dozen times, but had never read the book, and I was surprised to find it so very different--almost wholly so, after the first couple of chapters of setup. While I found the romance to be strangely unrealistic at times, I liked the character of Marie (so different from the movie!), and her perspective on Bourne's character made for great tension as she persisted in coming up with theories that exonerated Bourne, and kept him from too easily believing the worst.
