A decent but not particularly remarkable series. It cannot compare to "Sherlock". The writers were wise not to try to re-tell the much told story of Jack the Ripper, and this story begins after the Ripper murders occurred. I'm not sorry I watched it, but am not particularly anticipating a second series. Disk One was the most violent and harrowing to watch, and I almost didn't continue. Tons of atmosphere and a Dickensian CGI portrayal of diseased and rotting Victorian London with no sparing of details. The story came together in Disk Two and moved beyond the abattoir. There's so much slice & dice in films now that it's easy to become inured to it all. OK if you like this sort of thing. Give me good old reliable Sherlock any day.
