This is the dramatization of the double suicide of Heinrich von Kleist and Henrietta Vogel, and thus will be of interest to lovers of German lit. Visually, the film is gorgeous, but as a dramatic experience, it's flat. There isn't really much action. The repetition of a song from Beethoven's "An die ferne Geliebte" is tiresome rather than unifying. Kleist, with his idea of dying for love, comes off as a ridiculous man. Was he?
