It's funny. Even though, both The Crooked Kingdom and The Song Rising both have the protagonists fighting against the "system," with terrible odds stacked against them, it's just so much more serious here. It's also much more complicated, and the enemies much harder to beat. There was hardly ever a moment where I thought that they were gonna beat all odds no matter what, which was the complete opposite of what I was feeling while reading The Crooked Kingdom. It's crazy. Even though, I think Bardugo's writing is stronger, Shannon's story makes up for her weaker writing. However, I still don't understand how she's gonna write four more books out of this.
