The Vampire Lestat

the Second Book in the Chronicles of the Vampires

In the second and, in my opinion, best book in the vampire chronicles (much less of Louis' whining!), we learn that Lestat isn't at all the monster Louis thinks he is... he's a monster all right, but context is everything. We get to visit the 18th century of his youth, meet the loves of his life, follow him on his eternal quest, vicariously enjoy his passions, see his view of his relationship with Louis, and, quite simply, fall in love with him (if you go for the tortured bad boy type). A gorgeous book.
