Although not so accomplished as the Julian Kestral books by Kate Ross, I enjoyed Death Comes to the Village much more than I'd expected to, mainly because I liked the two main characters, wounded-at-Waterloo Major Kurland, and Miss Lucy Harrington, the rector's put-upon daughter.
I usually enjoy English village cozies and also Regency romances, if they don't become too 'cutesie', which this did not, managing to avoid many/most of the over-used genre cliches.
