Movie's theme seems to be the importance of a good childhood, not the criminal aspects of kidnapping (for both the child and the kid). It's good to see that Benedict Cumberbatch plays in rather arty fare such as this film that appeared on PBS's Masterpiece Theatre. This film explores the more private emotions that a couple goes through after their four year-old daughter disappears in a marketplace. The film is based on an award winning novel written by Ian McEwan. In some ways this film with all its sadness, still does not seem to visit hell as much as some of McEwan's works that I have read or seen.
