I am always grateful when I can find an author, that not only weaves a good story, but also can draw me in with good character development and well chosen words. I really
felt like I was in Ghana. Medie's focus on not only Afi and Eli's…Read moreRead more of this comment

This book very comfortably fits the vibe of a chick lit drama. I wouldn’t say there is a lot of depth to the story, but I did really enjoy the character arc of the main protagonist, Afi. I wouldn’t really categorize it as a “coming-of-age”…Read moreRead more of this comment

Interesting and fun read though the guy (Eli) gets infuriating. I was getting annoyed that she was still running after him despite him having another woman and being mean towards her (and constantly making up with…Read moreRead more of this comment
The subject matter and setting was fascinating and I found myself reading more about Ghana when I finished it.
I felt that parts of the novel read more like a case study than a novel. For that reason I'm giving it 3 12 stars

I understood this to be a feminist story, but there were only a couple of minor female characters who weren't at the mercy of male relatives. I spent most of the book being angry and wishing Afi would grow a backbone.

This is a perfect book for reading during the Pandemic because it illustrates the saying “Books take us places when we are forced to stay home.” In this case, it is to contemporary Ghana with a look both at the rural lifestyle and beliefs…Read moreRead more of this comment
