Comment:

A slow burn, but a satisfying one. I was expecting to find more pride and more prejudice in Darcy and Elizabeth, but they turned out to be better people than they might have been set up to be, at least to a modern reader like myself. A memorable classic.

Comment:

Haven't seen the Netflix adaptation, but I have a feeling it will do the story more justice. The novel consists of several more-or-less independent arcs about the Witcher Geralt's monster-slaying and human-placating expeditions. The idea behind each arc is clever, and can be novels in their own rights. Other than lackluster female characters, a thing that bugged me was Geralt's lack of a real personality. He acts the stoic and utters witty lines at the right times, but ultimately feels more like a walking vessel for "cool" character traits than a real person.

Comment:

It's been too long since I read the Handmaid's Tale, but while this book was a delight to read (if "delight" can describe a dystopian novel), it didn't quite carry the same depth of emotion. Loved the Aunt Lydia parts, appreciated Agnes' narration, and gradually grew to dislike the Daisy bits. There might be things about the characters and their plots that are rather unconvincing, but if you're an imaginative enough reader, you'll be alright. It was enjoyable overall, and I would recommend it to anyone who has lingering questions about the Handmaid's Tale.
